The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent federal agency. It funds, promotes, and strengthens the creative capacity of our communities by providing all Americans with diverse opportunities to participate in the arts, exercise their imaginations, and develop their creative capacities. Through partnerships with state arts agencies, local leaders, other federal agencies, and the philanthropic sector, the NEA supports arts learning, affirms and celebrates America’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, and extends its work to promote equal access to the arts in every community across America.

Based on a grid system, the white ground produces the letters A and W. The process in recognizing the ground letters represents bridging the gap between Art Works and the audience. The colors are based on artwork, Sol Lewitt’s Isometric Figure while the gray scale includes various patterns that represent colors and the variety of art work. The essential purpose is to reproduce the logo clearly on all manner of black and white governmental documents.
